My Hammered Card

STEP-BY-STEP CHRISTMAS 2018.
STEP THREE: MAKING CARDS

Do you remember me telling you that I had some beautiful hammered card I wanted to try to use up this Christmas? Well, I've come up with a design for a card I like which will allow me to do exactly that.

And this is it : )

Unlike the cards I've already made this year, I've made these with specific people in mind. And I've made matching Gift Tags because there will be small gifts for them too.
The preparation for this card was the most time-consuming part of making it. With everything ready to go, putting it together was very quick.

I cut the tags first, cutting a 6cm wide strip from the longest length of the my A4 sheet of card, folding it in half to make a folded tag.

Next, to make the cards, I folded the remaining piece into a card base approx 150cm square, and trimmed it down to 135mm square. This was the size of the envelopes I wanted to use.

I then added splashed grey watercolour paint onto the fronts of both. Just lightly. Mixing a small amount of paint with lots of water helps keep the paint very watery and make this easier : ) I dabbed lightly using tissue at any larger drops. And then left them both to dry overnight.

To create the stars, I printed the 'Ditsy Dots' paper design onto Paperworks #46 Sparkling White Paper from Paperchase and spray-mounted it onto smooth white card. Then I cut out my star shapes. The paper was a very close colour match to my Hammered Card. And I love the subtle sparkle of the paper. This gave me a finish I wanted.

Once they were folded into shape, I fastened them down using a small amount of PVA adhesive at each of the five points.

I added detail to the sentiment with a small piece of twine, which I knotted at both the front and back  to hold it in place and mounted it onto the card using dimensionals. I used the same twine for my tag too.

I added a few sequins and crystals to each. And my card and tag were finished.

Then I made an envelope liner for the envelope too so these is completely co-ordinated : )

I have just this one Card and Tag finished.
I have 10 grey envelopes. I have more sheets of card. But because I want each set I make to be identical in style, I'm going to make just 10 sets of these.
I have the stars already cut out.
I have enough banner-style sentiments cut and ready to trim with twine. I'm using some I already had printed from 'Happy Noel'. And some of my new 'Christmas Banner Sentiments'.
I'm going to cut my Card blanks & Tag blanks & do the watercolour splashes this evening and leave them to dry overnight.
Then tomorrow, probably whilst I'm watching Strictly, I'll put everything together.

That will put my total number of cards finished so far for this year at 30 : )
How's your Christmas card making going?

Love Liz xx

  1. These are beautiful Liz, clean and stylish. Just the type of cards I like to make. I have some linen card that I've had forever, so I may have a go with that today to make some cards. Well at least that's the plan along with a bit of a craft sort out. Wish me luck. Can't wait for your next instalment its definitely helping me focus more on my choices and style.
